Ella Grace

Ella trained at the London School of Musical Theatre and went on to front rock band Hitchcock Blonde for four years. As a composer and lyricist, she is a recipient of the Michael Grandage Future Bursaries Award.

She is writing the book, music, & lyrics for Nethergate, a contemporary Scottish retelling of Peter Pan, which was selected as one of the main showcase projects at BEAM 2016. After receiving support from Scottish Youth Theatre and Royal Conservatoire Scotland, Nethergate is now in active development with Dundee Rep Theatre.

In 2017, Ella was selected by Finger Lakes Festival in New York State to develop Ophelia, a feminine reinvention of the Hamlet story, which had earlier in the year been workshopped in London and performed at Viborg Teatre, Denmark.

Other projects in 2017 include Transported – a new musical based on the true story of the all-female cargo aboard the convict ship The Lady Juliana – which was developed and performed at Portsmouth University; and Blackout – an immersive multi-media musical supported by the Arts Council England, and developed and performed at Harlow Playhouse. In 2016 Ella wrote the music and lyrics for a new adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s Salome, which ran at the Walt Disney Modular Theatre in December. The show will be developed and showcased at New York Theatre Workshop in 2018.

She was selected for China Plate, House Theatre and The Musical Theatre Network’s inaugural Darkroom artistic development programme – from which she co-created Blackout. She was also the musical director for Harlow Playhouse’s Christmas pantomime, Beauty & The Beast.
Other previous credits include Trouble (New York Musical Theatre Festival, 2012), King Athelstan & Chums (Rose Theatre, Kingston 2015) and a finalist of the Perfect Pitch Awards 2014.

Ella is currently writing the music and lyrics for a new site-specific adaption of Peter Pan for the Serenbe Playhouse, Atlanta. She’s also developing a digital series based on the true story of Michelle Carter.
