David Hughes

David’s career has encompassed lighting design and production management often working in open stage formats; for example, with The Royal Exchange Theatre Company in Manchester and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford on Avon. He joined the YMT team in 2017 for the innovative production of ‘More in Common’, at Halifax’s Square Chapel, which he lit, and production managed.

David graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, in 2014, with a Master’s Degree in Project Management, and he continues to mentor post-graduate students at MMU. He’s taught technical theatre at The Oldham College, Backstage Academy (Bolton University), Salford City College, National College Creative Industries, and presently with Barnsley College.

Recently, he’s been working on productions with Eden Arts, Burnley Youth Theatre, Bolton College, Heritage Opera and Benny Hargreaves. His shows have included musicals, contemporary dance, plays, opera, festivals and comedy. A most challenging one was a staging of ‘West Side Story’ ‘in the round’ in a theatre auditorium he designed especially for the show.
