Youth Music Theatre UK has an unwavering reputation for creating the brightest new musical theatre projects and courses, led by trailblazing creative teams from West End, Fringe, Repertoire and Broadway theatre. And in the year of our 15th anniversary, this is no exception, especially in the case of our Wiltshire Summer Camp, taking place 30 July – 4 August.
As the musical director of our Wiltshire Summer Camp this year, composer and lyricist Tim Gilvin has worked extensively as a music leader and pianist with professionals and young people alike. For his musical, Stay Awake, Jake, Tim won The S&S Award 2014, which is one of the UK’s most prominent prizes for new musical theatre writing, as well as being nominated for 5 Broadway World Awards. We’re looking forward to Tim directing our very own Treacherous Tales & Famous Pirates at YMT’s Wiltshire Summer Camp (30 July – 4 August).
An intense and creative course in singing, acting and dancing, Tim will put the 11-17 year olds through their paces by directing them in a brand-new musical in a week. Building confidence and developing key performing arts skills, the young people will excel under the direction of Tim and the rest of the very experienced creative team.
Tim’s songs have been played on the BBC and Channel 4, and one of his songs, ‘A Bigger Smile’, was performed at the Garrick (West End) in 2015 as part of the shortlist for the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize. He is currently workshopping his show Kate and the Devil at Manchester Royal Exchange, as well as completing a commission for a new musical.
There is still an opportunity to BOOK ON to the Wiltshire Summer Camp to train under the direction of Tim and the other creatives, but be sure to book soon as spaces are limited! We also have camps this year in Edinburgh, Leeds, Hertfordshire, Surrey and London. If you are too old to attend any of our Summer Camps, but are interested in being trained by our industry professionals, consider booking on to our London Boot Camp (13-18 August for ages 17-21).
